Seriously. What.a.day! If only I had some decent photos to show for it 😂 Firstly, I decided I was long overdue for an adventure. I'm a massive fan of mini adventures and mini breaks (take note, husband) but today it was all about adventuring alone and I reckon a spontaneous adventure is so good for the soul and for the mind. So basically wherever I ended up, as long as it was nature based, was going to be great. I ummmed and ahhhed about which lens to pack and did a last minute swap to the long lens, leaving my lovely all purpose lens at home, alone, on the table, laughing at my lack of foresight and choice to not just pack two damn lenses, as I walked out the door. I ended up heading for Huskisson which is only my very favourite place in the whole world (although I do give that title to a few places, but honestly it is up there). The water is this amazing aqua colour and the sand is ridiculously white and like powder. I just kind of meandered around for a while, not even taking my camera out of my bag, just enjoying being there really. And then I started to have a memory which lead to a thought and when I start thinking it either ends really badly or really amazingly. Some context: so, yesterday False Killer Whales were spotted inside Jervis Bay and this is a big deal - they're seen outside of the bay but they are really uncommon in the bay itself. They're not a whale at all but an oceanic dolphin and don't have that beak that we tend to associate with dolphins. So my thought was yeah, why not jump on a cruise and see if they're still around. Now I don't want to say I'm a Disney Princess but what other lovely female dances around and has all the other animals come to her? Just ponder that question while I quietly mention that I happened to spot four FALSE KILLER WHALES from the shore like an absolute boss!!! (Very kindly ID'd by Marine Mammal Research JB). But once I have a thought, I can't just leave that hanging so I headed down to the amazing Dolphin Watch Cruises who squeezed me onto a cruise and it was without a doubt the best dolphin cruise I have ever been on. It helps that the water was pretty much calm so no spews 🙌 but there were dolphins EVERYWHERE. Some were riding the bow while others headed straight up to the boat, turning upside down, swimming along with us, their creamy tummies just seen through the water. You could hear their dolphin-y breaths so me and pretty much everyone onboard lost our minds. So... remember I mentioned the lens choice...ah turns out, it was ok for the FKW but pretty much terrible for dolphins so close I could have touched them (if I had really long arms and a flexible body and no moral compass 😂). Well you win some, you lose some!
