Critters mating? Maybe. Animals that pair for life? Perhaps. A heart shaped leaf? Beggars can't be choosers! But I went out with the usual attitude that I normally have which is: \"alright Universe, come at me 'bro!\". \n\nNow, full disclosure, I did get a little, ah, distracted. Well, it's not all about you lot! I've recently discovered these incredible TINY, metallic green stingless bees and once I saw a few buzzing around the front of my neighbour's house I dropped all V Day focus and honed in, just wanting to embrace the cute. These bees are seriously small, maybe 2-3 mm and have these huge black eyes. A bee in anime form. \n\nSo I was snapping away, thinking I was looking pretty great in all honesty ๐Ÿ˜‚ I had freshly washed hair, actual daytime clothes on, not pyjamas or active wear, husby was working from home and had stepped out to pick up the flowers he had ordered me. So in my head he was going to wander up the street, bouquet in hand and there I would be standing in dappled light, doing my BZ thing. It would be like a scene from some romantic movie. Except he was stuck on work calls and the light had turned pretty rubbish, I had started that mid morning sweat thing and I still haven't sorted out a decent diffuser so had two (minimally used) tissues jammed over my flash and looked quite the amateur ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ™Œ Marriage.\n\nBut no matter how many photos I took, this bee was not moving and I wanted different positions for Valentine's Day, damnit!!! These guys (likely Homalictus sp.) collect pollen on the hairs underneath their abdomen and are normally crawling all over the flowers. But this one, no movement. I grabbed the stem of the flower to slower turn it around to see what was happening and after a flurry of legs (not mine) I discovered the cause of its inactivity. This little bee was being snacked upon by a very well camouflaged Crab Spider!!! I've read that these ambush hunters sit waiting for their prey with their arms outstretched wide. So...that's kind of Valentine's Day-ish, in a 'give me a hug' kind of way, yeah? \n\nNative Stingless Bee and Crab Spider\nNorthern Illawarra", "media": [ { "url":
