This morning it was all about backlit birds and bugs, loads and loads and loads of bugs! You know when you are out and about and then suddenly a small swarm of insects appears next to you, all balled together, spinning around each other and you start walking faster or even running because a/ you don't want them in your mouth or ears and b/ no-one wants to look like the smelly person?
Well, today there was nowhere to hide. Thousands upon thousands of small flying critters, filled the air, and, luckily for spiders, every spider web delicately spun between branches and leaves. And you know who else loves bugs? Birds! Willy Wagtails, Silvereyes, Grey Fantails, Superb Fairy-wrens, all were calling excitedly and launching into the air, mouths open, sun streaming through their wing feathers, catching breakfast and surely lunch and also dinner. The further I walked into the shrubs the more life I found - dragonflies also filled the air catching anything that had the misfortune to cross their path. Grasshoppers, so many grasshoppers, leapt from the grass as I walked through, surprised into action.
Great way to spend the morning, before it got too hot, with everything so awake and alive (oh, aside from those tasty, tasty insects I guess). It's hungry work watching other critters eat, and what do you get the girl who has everything? Smashed avo and feta on toast! Hope your Sunday has been as delicious as mine.
