"text": "Summer has been weird. I'm sure it's been essentially the same as every other summer, minus the bushfires but it's felt particularly wet and sticky and my dog is starting to smell and when you pick her up she's a sweaty mess. No judgement, I'm the same, just harder to pick up and carry from room to room.\n\nBut yesterday was lovely, not overly hot but sunny and I was hoping for some native bee action. And boy did the day deliver. So much so that I'm still, as I'm writing this, trying to decide if I should post the three native bee species I photographed together in one post or if I should drag out what was basically a fabulous few hours over days. But I digress.\n\nI love teddy bear bees. They're one of my favourite native bees and yesterday they were out in force. I spent a bit of time wandering back and forth around the flower beds, the bowerbirds clicking and whirring away in the background. It was very tempting to move on, poking my head into the shrubbery to watch the bowerbird dance, but I'd spied a blue-banded bee on the way into the gardens and didn't want to risk missing out on spotting my favourite orange fluffies.\n\nThey're obnoxiously loud and as someone who used to be told at work, \"I can hear your laugh over the other side of the office\" when I was working in a ridiculously large space, I can relate. \n\nYou can hear their droning hum before you see them, and then when they fly in, they do it with a flourish, tongue out and hitting the flower which such force that the bloom bounces around for a bit. I can appreciate that kind of attitude. And that attitude was on full display as one after another, teddies flew in, some covered in a light dusting of golden pollen, often buzzing around already feeding teddies and moving them on in no uncertain terms. \n\nI needed that, a reminder that no matter what is going on in our own world, that nature and its inhabitants are still quietly (and not so quietly) doing their thing. \n\nSo here's to a few more hot, sunny days so I can get my fill of native bees (and share them on here) before Autumn comes along.\n\nTeddy Bear Bee\nWollongong Botanic Garden\n\n#wollongongbotanicgarden #teddybearbees #nativebees #nativebeesaustralia #ausgeo #bbcwildlifepotd #natgeoyourshot #backyardzoology",
