I heard a lone cicada today.
I guess summer is coming to an end. No more mass chorus of cicadas so loud that your ears feel like they will genuinely bleed.
No need for noise cancelling headphones to hang out the washing.
No shower of cicada pee raining down on you so subtly that you think it's a sun shower and raise your face to the sky so that you can feel the gentle pitter patter of the drops on your skin and DEAR GOD NO, ON YOUR LIPS.
Anyway, all that is almost over.
I found this Black Prince the other day singing his heart out. Did you know that it's only the males who call? What a sexy, sexy song, hey? That'll totally work on the ladies.
Normally the cicadas are pretty high up in the gums and I realised I had never seen the Black Prince actually call before.
The striping on the abdomen that appears is pretty wild and I thought you guys might appreciate as summer comes slowly to an end.
