Is it just me or does this look like the perfect Friday night - face down in a field of flowers, with a man on your back? 😂😉😂
With forecasts of 37 degrees today, I had planned to not go out at all today. I even got out of bed and proceeded to pull all the blinds shut throughout the house and checked that there were batteries in the air con remote. But I can't resist the pull of a little adventure and figured if I went out early enough and for not very long, I'd most likely, pretty much, almost certainly not die of heat exhaustion.
Decided to head to Wollongong Lighthouse and try my luck and no sooner had I stepped out of the car and a whale back broke the surface of the ocean. Yay me! And it was overcast and windy so the sting was taken out of the morning. I love when I make good decisions 🙌 But that was pretty much it. A couple of puffs here, the tip of a tail there, a glint of sun off of a couple of humps. And then the sun emerged from behind the clouds and suddenly it was HOT!
But all was not lost because I just happened to be standing in a massive patch of yellow flowers which was teeming with life and that life just happened to be desperate to make more life! It's so easy to think of bees as the only critters that pollinate plants but when you look at a couple of these ladybirds covered in pollen which they happened to pick up as they walked over the flower during mating, you can see how accidental pollination occurs.
It was also a nice reminder to me (and yes, I need many, many reminders) that it's not just about the big creatures but also about the small ones. Any ones really, as long as you are out amongst it. It's so easy to get stuck in your own head and to go around and around in there but something happens when you step outside and focus on something other than yourself, even if it's only a couple of ladybirds. Humping away. Clasped together. Dragging each other around. Caked in pollen. And now I feel like a pervert!
Happy Friday all!
