There were two amazing, free shows today at Bass Point. The first was this constant barrage of tail slapping by a very happy humpback, just over and over and over. I think most people didn't realise it was going on, so it was my friend and I balancing on the rocks cheering and screaming and just general oohing and ahhing as it brought its tail down again and again and again. It was really lovely.
The second show, which no-one else (HOPEFULLY) witnessed, was me wiggling out of the more presentable shirt I was wearing when I interviewed someone earlier this morning and into my not at all attractive but very necessary SPF shirt. I did this in the front seat of my car and there was a moment when I was sitting there, behind the wheel, in my jeans and bra frozen like a deer in the headlights.
I kept telling myself it was no different from sitting there in a bikini except with WAY more support and with a more grandma-forward kind of style!
I should post the video of the whale tail, and the photos of a whale I saw locally on the incredibly windy Monday just gone when I was very nearly blown over watching this jumpy whale.
But in between my Monday and Friday whales there was also a very lovely Eastern Osprey, very special birds that are listed as vulnerable in NSW. It kept doing circles right over my head flying super low and just using that incredible eyesight looking for fish and sticks as it turns out.
It did swoop down onto the rocks and picked up a small stick (nesting most likely although this little nubby wouldn't have been much use and so maybe its eyesight really isn't that great after all!) But my day was made. Bass Point truly is a special place.
