Q: What has thousands of legs and squeals?
A: Me stumbling across hordes of soldier crabs!
I haven’t seen these little guys for years! I had taken myself on a photo adventure last Friday around different spots throughout Lake Illawarra and had so much fun and saw so many cool birds that I insisted husby come with me on the Saturday - and in spite of one too many espresso martinis on Friday night we headed out first thing.
I always hope to see crabs when I hit the rocks or beach but just hadn’t expected to see these guys and what a bloody treat it was!!! We’re talking about THOUSANDS of these crabs, so many that you could actually hear them running along - a high pitched, almost tinkling sound. Brilliant! And as we got close individual crabs began to corkscrew into the sand where they spend the majority of their time and out of sight.
