I'm still pinching myself over this one!
Now this might be totally ridiculous but I turn 50 this year and I have a whiteboard in my study (okay it's the laundry but there's a computer there and it's not at all distracting working as the washing machine is rumbling away behind you). The whiteboard is usually reserved for bills or notes about upcoming bills and sometimes a meal plan.
But a couple of months ago I added a list of things I want to do in this my 50th year. One of those things was to snorkel with Giant Cuttlefish.
They congregate in South Australia in huge numbers over winter to mate but there was no chance I'd get to SA this year and so I did the next best thing, jumped in the car with a friend (no I don't like driving in Sydney and somehow we accidentally ended up on the Harbour Bridge on the way home, so it's perilous even for the best of us) and drove a couple of hours in search of a spot where we could snorkel, in shallow and still warm waters with this amazing creature I have been dying to see.
We were in the water maybe 10 minutes when my friend yelled out to me that there was one below her and honestly I was squealing the whole time and even now I get teary thinking about it, but in those few minutes she made one of my dreams come true.
It didn't flash its amazing colours, a display that it's known for. It didn't snatch a fish for its dinner. It DID make amazing shapes with its tentacles. Its skin became spiked as it shifted and changed and glided past, under and around us for around 10 minutes. And it did, absolutely 100% in every single way, exceed my expectations.
