I'm not a New Years resolutions sort of girl. Let's face it, I'm likely to continue to get fatter this year so why set myself up for failure 😆

Instead I usually do themes. I've had 'no fear, no regrets' (spoiler alert: with a theme like that you do tend to end up with a few regrets) and 'home sweet home' where I focused on making, and baking and nesting really. This time I went into 2018 with zero themes, thoughts, resolutions. Nada. I just wasn't feeling it to be honest. But that has changed. I bring to you the theme for this year: ALL THE ANIMALS 🙌

Now I didn't know this was going to be the theme but I do like to 'start the year as you plan to continue'. I wanted to get out and adventure this morning but again was not feeling it. It was a force yourself up and at 'em kind of day. So I left it to husby to plan a course of action and he chose - 'find wifey a koala, damnit'. Good man. But by the time we left it was hot. It was the middle of the day. And we were heading to south west Sydney. Hot, hot, hot. And I'm not a heat loving girl.

But into the bush we trekked. This is 'proper' bush - that real arid, dusty, rocks under foot and gums towering overhead landscape - the bush I think of whenever I think of Australia. There were cicadas but not like at home, more solitary and distant. The only real noise was the sound of the occasional branch dropping, our trudging along and my complaining about the heat 😆 And then there he was, right next to the path. In a fork of a gum, just as you'd expect. Sound asleep, just as you'd expect. My very first wild koala sighting. The day I became a 'real' Australian. Achievement unlocked. Seriously, year made (on the very first day). So let's do this. If today is anything to go by, I'm totally ready for 2018!
