So funny to think a few weeks ago snorkelling wasn't high on my agenda. Sure, I've snorkelled on holidays and the like but now? I'm obsessed. I even dreamt I was snorkelling last night although the tide was super low and there was, ah, BITS of sting ray in the water. If anyone wants to interpret that, be my guest. Actually, on that topic, if anyone found my dream journal that I put on top of my car when I lived in North Wollongong, a dream journal that I wrote in every day, in meticulous detail, including what was on my mind, what I had eaten before bed, all of the juicy, juicy dream details, and that I lost after I drove away with said journal on my car roof, yeah, I'm going to need that back. Anyway, this octopus is one reason why I love snorkelling so much. Octopus are so smart, their camouflage is so incredible, and their movements really are otherworldly. Seeing an occy in a rock pool is amazing but being in the same space as one, especially one like this that was reaching its tentacles around the crevices looking for crabs, is just indescribable. Hoping for more lovely encounters soon. Common Sydney Octopus Illawarra
