That moment when you're driving down the street and husby yells "lyrebird" and now you can answer the age old question: what do lyrebirds eat? As many worms as they can fit into their mouth at once as it turns out! (and spiders and frogs and insects - anything that they turn up out of the leaf litter really).
We hear lyrebirds a fair bit. We see them occasionally but when they see us they generally dart back into the forest. But not today. We got to watch, with our neighbour, a couple of lyrebirds - one right out in the open digging in the soil and scoffing worms. At one stage one of the birds actually walked up the embankment and straight to us - giving us a long hard look over. So, so brilliant!
