By the time I realised what was happening I was too far away and too pooped to try for decent photos but still, the behaviour was interesting enough to post regardless.
I got to watch as this kelp gull took some sort of shell - possibly a large sea snail - and after initially dropping it straight onto the rock platform from its mouth, started to fly so that it could drop it from height. It flew higher each time until eventually the shell cracked and it was able to get to the contents inside. Definitely more interesting than watching silver gulls try and grab my chips!
