We did a clean up of our front porch a few weeks ago. When you live in a tiny house, every last centimetre counts. I don't know how but our porch had become the resting place for half used tins of paint, rock hard paintbrushes, boxes of books ready to donate, plates for some reason! It was a mess. Matt came home from walking the dogs and said all he could see from the road was the egg chair being manoeuvred through the door way. That's never a good sign because when I get an idea, I get an idea that has to be enacted immediately. And often those ideas come in the middle of doing the other thing I had already decided to do. Luckily he agreed that the porch was well overdue a spring clean and so we got stuck in. Now I feel fancy AF sitting there looking over our domain. I'm not even ashamed when the postie comes to the door anymore. Don't get me wrong. It's still very much our house with a resident leaf-tailed gecko, spiders, so many spiders and lots of insects. I've been spending many an hour reading out there and am plowing through the very disturbing Raven about People's Temple which I've always been obsessed with. Occasionally a green cuckoo wasp, one of my very fave insects, would visit, landing briefly on the door or the gate looking for nests of other wasps to lay its eggs in. It was always brief though and I've run into the house frantically grabbing my camera only to be disappointed by a now absent wasp more times than I care to admit. But the other day, one landed and just, well, sat there. I waited for a while because the running inside thing was getting old but there it sat. And there I sat. And it went nowhere. I really love these insects - this one was super tiny but the colour is just out of this world. Its little armoured suit literally sparkles in the light. Sure it might be a total bastard, laying its egg where the larvae can eat the egg or the larvae of the host wasp its parasitising but what can I say? I love all the shiny things and this one is particularly pretty! Green cuckoo wasp Northern Illawarra
