So I went and turned 49 yesterday. Well that feels ah, interesting! I had originally planned to spend the day in pyjamas watching horror movies and eating cake but the weather turned out beautiful; the rain from the day before had stopped, the wind had died down to nothing, oh and Matt bought me a new lens for my birthday. No sooner had I unwrapped it and I was stripping out of my pyjamas and pulling on the hiking boots (there were other clothes involved - please don't get the visual of me running around in my boots sans everything! And if you do, the trauma is on you!) As the lens is a new macro, we headed up to Mt Annan Botanical Gardens, where we spent an hour or so searching for the smaller things in life. Winter is a crappy time to do this as a rule but there were a few bees around, a couple of grasshoppers, that kind of thing. Enough to have some fun as I was working my way around the ins and outs of this thing. As we were leaving I spotted a gorgeous Black Swan on one of the lakes and ummed and ahhed as to whether I should pull over. If you know Mt Annan, it's one way so if you decide you want to head to a spot you've already passed, you'll need to do another lap, which is what I did because, well, black swans! I realised it was kind of ironic, standing there with my long lens taking photos of these huge birds, when the reason we were there was to use the macro on the tiny things, but sometimes you just have to go where the day takes you.
