Hello, it's me, this time sans possum!
This morning we headed down to Bass Point to try and catch some of the northern migration on the Humpback Highway. Last Monday we walked to Wedding Cake Rock in the Royal National Pod and saw well over 20 pods. It was absolutely incredible. They were further out than we're used to, but it was a magical sight and took away some of the 'omfg why didn't anyone tell me there were so many damn steps' that I was feeling along the walk!
This Monday we decided to settle for a shorter walk, a different vibe and hopefully, closer whales. Well, we got that in spades. Matt's been acting out the look I had on my face when I could actually hear the rush of air, along with a deep whistle, coming from the blow of a couple of whales in super close. Seriously, there is nothing like actually HEARING a whale. And apparently, it makes you pull some pretty ridiculous faces!
There wasn't any real 'action', you know, the breaching and tail slaps that we all love to see. And we were rained out just after lunch, but seeing the different patterns on the animals as they cruised by, the barnacles on their tails and to just be so close, well, that's good enough for me.
