So here's a little something else from yesterday. I mentioned the sound of the adult humpback's fin slapping against the water and really I couldn't even begin to describe the sound or the effect it had on me - and trust me, this video is not going to help at all - but I still think it's worth a share. Now I was a fair way back, my camera isn't designed to pick up these sort of sounds and you can hear that it's quite windy. But if you listen you can hear a distinct slap, somewhat delayed, after the fin hits the water. My goal is to work on capturing this sound more accurately during the upcoming season, not just for you guys but for me because it is a sound and an experience I never want to forget. It really did have a huge effect on me. I think being so close to these animals, the sheer enormity of them and also watching the calf so new and vulnerable but with its eye open watching the world as it breached, and just being able to actually HEAR the impact of the mother on the water, all of these things added to make a pretty much life changing moment for me. So you will get a tiny taster of the sound I heard but there's also a bonus calf breach because I'm nice like that ๐Ÿ˜‰๐Ÿ™Œ Humpback Whales Bass Point #shellharbourcitycouncil #basspoint #WINNews6pm #illawarramercury #whaleon #wildaboutwhales #welovethegong #backyardzoology
