Not only has the sky been whited out with the torrential rain much of the day (and all of the night) but there has been a really unnerving rumble from deep within the escarpment, heard somehow over the roar of the rushing and tumbling creek. By 10am I'd pretty much given up and resigned myself to a 'if you can't beat 'em, join 'em' mentality and plunged myself into a deep, hot bath and floated around, reading and listening to Sufjan Stevens. Not much else to be done today I'm afraid.\n\nRain, in some form or other, is supposed to be hanging around for another week or so. Thank God, I'm so behind in posting then and I have this beautiful snake still to share with you all. We spotted this slithery fellow during an afternoon walk at Darkes Forest. I had been head down, bum up, photographing the totally sexy White's Skink (which is another one I'm yet to post, so you'll just have to trust me on how damn beautiful it is at this point) when I heard a rustle and turned around to see this one making its way from one side of the path to the other. \n\nI'd never seen one of these snakes before and it wasn't until later I found out that it's the mildly venomous Mustard-Bellied Snake and is endemic to New South Wales. I know not everyone is a huge snake fan but this one, like most snakes, was pretty much uninterested in us and just flicked its tongue, testing and tasting the air as it slithered past us. Honestly, I think any day I see a snake is a good day and let's face it, there's plenty of space for us all.\n\nHoping that you are all keeping safe and dry wherever you are.\n\nMustard-Bellied Snake\nDarkes Forest", "media": [ { "url": "https://scontent.fsyd4-1.fna.fbcdn.net/v/t39.30808-6/475790596_2632064560313170_8874552348605804170_n.jpg?stp=dst-jpg_tt6&cstp=mx1873x1405&ctp=s1873x1405&_nc_cat=109&_nc_map=urlgen_bucketless&ccb=1-7&_nc_sid=127cfc&_nc_ohc=Enp1Fx_WV7kQ7kNvwHA1cei&_nc_oc=AdrktgyEHjJ9bx4UzIkzLNfMPJlv4GG1uLs1sxTTa7lrOJKTZcxHhLldvRjegYK_dC4&_nc_zt=23&_nc_ht=scontent.fsyd4-1.fna&_nc_gid=pwT3udp1jNKYW-lgb0p98A&_nc_ss=7f2a8&oh=00_AQTH8Ziny9o1DQUrMmEyvPnbHwG41F4JUAngzSeTW2P6aQ&oe=6AF61EE0", "reported_width": 1873, "reported_height": 1405, "id": "1866118003574500", "kind": "image", "role": "photo", "resolution_status": "facebook_photo_viewer_largest_exposed", "original_verified": false, "alt": "No photo description available.", "origin": "post", "status": "downloaded", "local_path": "posts/1866118546907779/assets/1-1866118003574500.jpg", "content_type": "image/jpeg", "bytes": 204310, "downloaded_from_url": "https://scontent.fsyd4-1.fna.fbcdn.net/v/t39.30808-6/475790596_2632064560313170_8874552348605804170_n.jpg?stp=dst-jpg_tt6&cstp=mx1873x1405&ctp=s1873x1405&_nc_cat=109&_nc_map=urlgen_bucketless&ccb=1-7&_nc_sid=127cfc&_nc_ohc=Enp1Fx_WV7kQ7kNvwHA1cei&_nc_oc=AdrktgyEHjJ9bx4UzIkzLNfMPJlv4GG1uLs1sxTTa7lrOJKTZcxHhLldvRjegYK_dC4&_nc_zt=23&_nc_ht=scontent.fsyd4-1.fna&_nc_gid=pwT3udp1jNKYW-lgb0p98A&_nc_ss=7f2a8&oh=00_AQTH8Ziny9o1DQUrMmEyvPnbHwG41F4JUAngzSeTW2P6aQ&oe=6AF61EE0", "sha256": "b5bb715d3fc1abb560db120d1007efef34513e253f8feac150a45d5980e2bba3", "saved_width": 1873, "saved_height": 1405 }, { "url": "https://scontent.fsyd3-1.fna.fbcdn.net/v/t39.30808-6/476064065_2632064156979877_6057988446273501254_n.jpg?stp=dst-jpg_tt6&cstp=mx1928x1446&ctp=s1928x1446&_nc_cat=110&_nc_map=urlgen_bucketless&ccb=1-7&_nc_sid=127cfc&_nc_ohc=ZgJqyJ4uDhwQ7kNvwGYjk1J&_nc_oc=AdoAkYkslEOXylmIpPIlAZLQcSowQ0hNorWRmEMoW8V8DM0igVfOlmiHZaomf_7KXVI&_nc_zt=23&_nc_ht=scontent.fsyd3-1.fna&_nc_gid=BAa-aj2CRgpPWwIC0cPhWA&_nc_ss=7f2a8&oh=00_AQSIsdfzcaD31Conha10UXCdSXYPsAlqubnSs0QAWvO5HA&oe=6AF60EAA", "reported_width": 1928, "reported_height": 1446, "id": "1866118146907819", "kind": "image", "role": "photo", "resolution_status": "facebook_photo_viewer_largest_exposed", "original_verified": false, "alt": "No photo description available.", "origin": "post", "status": "downloaded", "local_path": "posts/1866118546907779/assets/2-1866118146907819.jpg", "content_type": "image/jpeg", "bytes": 267566, "downloaded_from_url": "https://scontent.fsyd3-1.fna.fbcdn.net/v/t39.30808-6/476064065_2632064156979877_6057988446273501254_n.jpg?stp=dst-jpg_tt6&cstp=mx1928x1446&ctp=s1928x1446&_nc_cat=110&_nc_map=urlgen_bucketless&ccb=1-7&_nc_sid=127cfc&_nc_ohc=ZgJqyJ4uDhwQ7kNvwGYjk1J&_nc_oc=AdoAkYkslEOXylmIpPIlAZLQcSowQ0hNorWRmEMoW8V8DM0igVfOlmiHZaomf_7KXVI&_nc_zt=23&_nc_ht=scontent.fsyd3-1.fna&_nc_gid=BAa-aj2CRgpPWwIC0cPhWA&_nc_ss=7f2a8&oh=00_AQSIsdfzcaD31Conha10UXCdSXYPsAlqubnSs0QAWvO5HA&oe=6AF60EAA", "sha256": "796ec3981f9721018024fb9d979ff666a937bf67b523dc3fbc7d1b6b6146afc5", "saved_width": 1928, "saved_height": 1446 }, { "url": "https://scontent.fsyd3-2.fna.fbcdn.net/v/t39.30808-6/475458020_2632064126979880_610536117363694792_n.jpg?stp=dst-jpg_tt6&cstp=mx1895x1421&ctp=s1895x1421&_nc_cat=108&_nc_map=urlgen_bucketless&ccb=1-7&_nc_sid=127cfc&_nc_ohc=r8GcUgebsE0Q7kNvwHQgjiH&_nc_oc=AdopC9QnJRDtw6F1OG-xuidvtBVGsmPSrjPY71nEJ812zxWCkhGJnXgKF9BaO_lwCIc&_nc_zt=23&_nc_ht=scontent.fsyd3-2.fna&_nc_gid=1k606wVsGCwC_ZlmHOnW4w&_nc_ss=7f2a8&oh=00_AQSIGHjOqQKhUCVj1Ba5MU9o0YNZhdPiHydow03unbrC9A&oe=6AF5FFC1", "reported_width": 1895, "reported_height": 1421, "id": "1866118270241140", "kind": "image", "role": "photo", "resolution_status": "facebook_photo_viewer_largest_exposed", "original_verified": false, "alt": "No photo description available.", "origin": "post", "status": "downloaded", "local_path": "posts/1866118546907779/assets/3-1866118270241140.jpg", "content_type": "image/jpeg", "bytes": 187741, "downloaded_from_url": "https://scontent.fsyd3-2.fna.fbcdn.net/v/t39.30808-6/475458020_2632064126979880_610536117363694792_n.jpg?stp=dst-jpg_tt6&cstp=mx1895x1421&ctp=s1895x1421&_nc_cat=108&_nc_map=urlgen_bucketless&ccb=1-7&_nc_sid=127cfc&_nc_ohc=r8GcUgebsE0Q7kNvwHQgjiH&_nc_oc=AdopC9QnJRDtw6F1OG-xuidvtBVGsmPSrjPY71nEJ812zxWCkhGJnXgKF9BaO_lwCIc&_nc_zt=23&_nc_ht=scontent.fsyd3-2.fna&_nc_gid=1k606wVsGCwC_ZlmHOnW4w&_nc_ss=7f2a8&oh=00_AQSIGHjOqQKhUCVj1Ba5MU9o0YNZhdPiHydow03unbrC9A&oe=6AF5FFC1", "sha256": "1062d7155dd1930465c9a1a10a8cb54fcc4fbff0355c152549083b4777fed367", "saved_width": 1895, "saved_height": 1421 } ], "music": [], "music_status": "none_exposed", "warnings": [], "shared_post": null, "archived_at": "2026-11-08T09:37:15.978622+00:00", "expected_photo_count": 3, "post_type": "post", "title": "Backyard Zoology ยท 7 April 2022", "expected_attachment_count": 3 }
