I'm not keen on surprises. At all. But this one was a good one. Sure it started out a bit WTF and then turned a bit OMG but ended finally with awww. It was a bloody lovely surprise and I didn't stop smiling all day.
So, from the top. We decided that it was time to get in and get the deck looking schmiko for Spring. Matt was standing there, on the deck, and we were planning the plans and doing the things and I was standing in the doorway to our bedroom texting my son because I can totally multitask. I was face down in the phone when I heard, "Bunny! Look out!"
I heard the frantic click clacking of claws rush past me and as I turned to follow the sound I caught sight of a very long, very dark tail leaving our bedroom and heading into our laundry/every damn thing room. I stood there trying to work out what the hell, or rather, who the hell, had just happened? Not the dogs, definitely. A possum? Hmmm, probably not, it was too big and the tail was kind of firm looking. A rat? A shiver ran up me. If that tail belonged to a rat it was a very big one and it was now in our house!
Matt came running past, shutting the dogs outside behind him while I headed in and found a huge, very majestic looking Eastern Water Dragon sitting somewhere between a fan and an office chair! My first Dragon of the season and it looked like it had decided to move in too! There was a bit of head scratching and then some banana offering to see if I could tempt him back outside while Matt built a wall out of boxes and cushions and a bench seat to try and corral the reptile where we wanted him to go ie not under or in any cupboards or beds!
But it turns out he didn't want to go anywhere. I used a soft bristle broom to try and move him but lizard said 'no'. In the end, I resorted to the old towel over the animal trick and was able to scoop him up and take him back out the front, you know, into the wild where he's supposed to live!
Happy Sunday everyone!
