While all of the literature states that these guys shelter in crevices during the day, at my house they choose to sleep the day away UNDER our bins. Now, you never can tell which of the three bins they will be under or even if they will be there at all but just in case, on bin days, I take the time (and the bin wrangling effort) to tip the bin back onto its back wheels exposing any snoozing lizards before wheeling it out onto the street.\n\nI have had one drop its tail before after a bin related incident. Trust me, once you see that fat leaf shaped fleshy tail flipping and flopping around on the pavement and the little lizard now sans tail, it really does ensure a different approach to bin moving forever into the future. All good though as they can grow back their tail which is amazing in itself. We often see ones with their new tails around here and it's pretty obvious as it's often a slightly different colour and is always smooth as opposed to their usual bumpy skin.\n\nAnd just look at their camouflage!!! They usually hang around sandstone environments and you can really see that with their mottled colouring of browns and sandy tones and the very occasional orange spot. Aside from hanging out under our bin, the other place I find these guys is at night, on the side of the house, facing head down, waiting for any cockroaches or spiders to run past them and become an instant meal! \n\nHave to say, they have an intense little squeal when disturbed which is matched only by the husband who squeals in pure unadulterated fear if they ever come face to face. I mean, what could be more terrifying than a snoozy little 15cm long speckled lizard? ๐Ÿ˜‰\n\nSouthern Leaf-Tailed Gecko\nNorthern Illawarra", "media": [ { "url":
