I know some of you are probably sick to death of Cicadas at this point but #sorrynotsorrry! I mean, firstly, there's got to be some benefit to running a page like this day in, day out meaning I get to choose the content and secondly Facebook is restricting the hell out of my reach and videos are restricted even more so, so it's not like any of you will end up seeing this one anyway!!! 😂😩 I almost forgot I had this little video. I took it during my first Cicada photo shoot of the year a week or so again. But I remembered it after heading out quickly to scout the backyard before bed last night and found not one, not two but 10 Cicadas all in various stages of moulting into adulthood! I often talk about the 'sit up' that the nymphs do as part of the moulting process and finally got around to capturing it. (It goes in and out of focus a little but that's the Backyard Zoology way, right?) 😉 It's actually one of the quickest movements in a process that can take a couple of hours and it's this final bit that releases the abdomen from the exoskeleton and allows the wings to be unfurled. It's Friday night so you can bet your bottom dollar we'll be knee deep in wine tonight, but fingers crossed it's knee deep in wine AND Cicadas! Cicada Sit Up Northern Illawarra
