We all have our vices, mine just happens to be tree based. As a family, we have a pretty firm set of traditions which includes me baking cookies and listening to the many Sufjan Stevens Christmas albums with us recently adding in Sia's as well and all 3 of us putting up the tree and decorating it together. It's a noisy, messy shambles and I bloody love every second! We had to throw out our huge tree a few years ago as possums had gotten into it in the garage and nested (and peed!) in it! ๐Ÿ˜‚ Hopefully this one has faired better this year!!! We found these very photogenic Variegated Fairy-Wrens a few days ago. These birds are pretty flighty generally, bouncing in and out of cover for brief periods only but these ones sat out in the setting afternoon sun, singing their hearts out and it turns out, there were a couple of bubbas amongst the group too! Photos just don't do the iridescent blue justice and I have to say, I do prefer my birds like I do my Christmas trees - shiny! I was bouncing around with excitement when I was able to take a decent amount of photos of just one male and so I was pretty much losing my mind by the time I spotted a third male fly in! Perfect way to spend an afternoon! Variegated Fairy-Wren Northern Illawarra
