"text": "Guys I’m so sorry but I have more awful news. We headed out to see if we could spot the warbling Lyrebird and I found a mess of adult Tawny feathers, including quite a lot up a tree and bone fragments just underneath that, a few houses down.\n\nI had heard that the Flying Foxes have returned and I suspect that the Powerful Owl has returned along with them. What I think has happened is that the P’owl has swooped down and taken the adult off of the nest and has either inadvertently also grabbed the young one only to drop it a few metres away or the chick has been caught up with the adult and has been dropped during the struggle. It explains the distance from the nest of the nestling and also the lack of visible injuries.\n\nWe are devastated. I don’t yet know if it was Tony or Toni but I had a Tawny ooming very close to our window around 4:30am and heard it faintly continuing to call around 10am either in our yard or nearby. Totally heartbroken as Tony particularly is such a regular visitor and I can’t help but cry big fat salty torrents.\n\nBeing taken by a P’owl though, really is the best case scenario. P’owls are classed as being vulnerable in several states including NSW so if that is who took Tony/i, at least their loss doesn’t feel like just a senseless waste.\n\nI’m so sorry to have to pass on this awful news as I try to keep this page as a little ray of sunshine amongst all of, well, everything. But this is nature. It’s raw and it’s brutal and it’s devastating and it’s abso-fucking-lutely beautiful.",
