Firstly, there's lots going on here. And by here I mean in the very close proximity of my house and a couple of metres either side of the house. I'm just struggling to find words so forgive the pause in transmission. But life is most certainly kicking on in the way that life kicks on ie critters eating critters and critters paralysing critters and taking them back to their nests for their babies to eat and critters parasitising other critters. I guess life is bloody hard sometimes! Especially for team 'going to get eaten'.
It was Matt's birthday yesterday. I feel sorry for little kids having birthdays in this environment, having their parties cancelled and instead having to Skype with family and friends. But I feel REALLY sorry for grown ass men having their birthdays during a pandemic!!! I mean, I had planned for Matt to do a whiskey blending course where he would walk away with two bottles of his very own personalised blend, lunch at a fancy ass restaurant where I'd feel completely underdressed and not nearly cool enough to be there and then off to a pastry shop that I've been dying to go to because birthdays can't be all about the birthday boy right? Anyway, instead we ate home made cupcakes, and watched docos in our pyjamas and took photos in our pyjamas and it was totally lovely, just not what we had planned but good lord, if that doesn't sum up life right now, I don't know what does!
The night before, my son had dropped around ice cream so we'd have something birthday-ish in the house for dessert. Now my boy, because he is still working, is staying with his dad for the foreseeable future so that we can reduce my chance of infection as much as possible. It's bloody awful and has been the worst aspect by far of this whole...thing. But we got to see each other, from afar, and the dogs jumped around and wagged their tails, well the big one did and the little one that only has a little knot for a tail wiggled her whole bum. It was absolutely amazing getting to see him (and the ice cream and the milk and the bread!) but mid conversation as I was asking about his day and how he's coping with school being online and if he's keeping safe, something fell from the night sky, the camellias collapsing and then rebounding with the weight.
Me: What the actual hell?
My son: It's just a frog.
So yeah, now we have frogs falling from the sky and if you've seen one of my favourite movies Magnolia you'll know that it's kind of this metaphor in the story but here at my house, it's just a Peron's Tree Frog leaping from the roof. And as we stood there wondering why a frog had chosen to make this huge leap from roof to hedge, the answer itself poked it's head over the gutter and looked down at us - a young Brushtail Possum! 😂
I grabbed a couple of photos but you can't really see the emerald coloured flecks on the frog's skin which are totally gorgeous, but you can see the distinctive cross shaped pupil and a glimpse of the yellow black markings in the frogs armpits and thighs. But who cares if it's only a couple of photos taken in the dark with a torch. It's a frog. It fell from the sky. And for a girl currently going absolutely nowhere, that sort of sh*t absolutely counts for entertainment around here! 😂🙌
