I feel like I owe you guys some bird photos. Yeah, ah, about that. I'm not even taking out the long lens most days. I'm obsessed with the little things at the moment. Bees particularly. Other insects often. Baking also. But as I know a lot of you came onboard through bird pics and I just happen to be currently practicing kindness and I mean who wants to lose followers this deep in the game 😂, well today, I'm going to give you guys what you've asked for. Except you haven't really verbalised any actual desire for bird photos and the ones I have are pretty rubbish anyway 😂 I actually took these way back at the beginning of January and didn't end up using them because they're not the greatest shots in themselves but I kind of like them because they show a lot of yelling and screaming between partners and I just feel that deep in my soul. We had actually stood around for ages watching one of the Black Shouldered Kites. It had turned up with a little mouse which it quickly shoved down. There was no drawn out plucking process, where the fur rains down from above. No opening up of the rodent from the middle with the intestines pulled out and dropped below which we often see with the bigger rat meals. This all happened so fast that we didn't have a chance to get into position and actually get a shot of the process so were feeling pretty bummed and were just standing below begging for something to happen. These birds tend to give a couple of low squawks before they take off and the perched Kite started having a yell and I kind of expected to see it take to the skies but as I put the camera up to my eye I noticed that it was started to REALLY squawk. Mouth wide open, like, really wide open kind of action! And then suddenly another Kite swooped in behind it and promptly unseated the yeller! So I hope these photos give you a break from the buzzing critters I just cannot get enough of at the moment and trust me, we'll resume with our usual insect based programming shortly, no doubt.
