So this morning ended up being in complete contrast to yesterday which we spent in the ocean. I thought the dip was completely relaxing and said as much to Matt as we bobbed around. His response? "Relaxing? I'm exhausted from trying to walk along the bottom using just my hands." My husband, ladies and gentlemen 😂🙌
This morning was much more focused and we spent it with THE most cooperative, photogenic little boy ever!!! It started off as just a walk along the beach, looking for anything that caught our eye. But this little man popped up on the fence in front of us and well, he didn't really go very far at all and neither did we. He sang a fair bit, and bounced down onto the grass and into shrubs grabbing at beetles and moths, the latter leaving a soft powder around his beak, after being gobbled up. He would fly a couple of metres along the fence line and then stand and wait as we quickly followed, posed a bit, sang a bit more and then resumed hunting and then he'd bounce one, two, three times, and head back in the direction that we had all come from.
And on and on this went. Back and forth. To the ground, the fence and into a shrub. Over and over again. Eventually he up and left, flying far enough away for us to no longer be able to see him and his vivid self or even to hear him. It was strange initially as he was completely by himself, hunting alone, with no other little Fairy-Wrens calling or popping up from amongst the grasses, so perhaps he headed back to the family group. But it was so absolutely lovely we didn't even try to find another bird to photograph for fear that we'd only be disappointed. And who wants to be disappointed on a Sunday? To top off a lovely morning, it is now raining and has been for a couple of hours, on and off, with clouds hanging low and hugging the trees in the street. A perfect ending to a beautiful day.
Hope you all have a lovely start to the new week!
