I woke up to rain yesterday. Not a lot but it was still nice to hear. Today is a combination of smoky air and overcast sky and I'm hoping that we get some more of that rain falling before the day ends. We've had a quiet weekend so far and I don't expect that to change, which is fine by me. I baked first thing yesterday morning and can feel a tingle in my baking zone now, so fingers crossed there will be a semi well made cake at some point today and if I do that and spend some time in my garden, that is, in my mind, a day well spent. Matt and I spent a fair bit of time watching the bees yesterday and by watching I mean taking photos competitively. He kept sending me screen shots of his best photos which has had me sheepishly scrolling through mine this morning, secretly and hurriedly deleting all of my blurry bee pics and especially my 'I swear there was a bee here just a second ago' shots which I seem to specialise in. He has also taken to throwing his coffee grounds out onto the little garden and it seems that we're not the only coffee lovers in the area though, as I watched a nice fat Leaf Cutter Bee climbing out of a hole made in the mound of dried grounds. Interesting choice for a burrow, that's for sure! But there's been loads of Blue-Banded Bees around and they still remain my favourite native bee. They're so manic in their flight, changing mind and direction almost as erratically as I do. They also seem quite aggressive, although perhaps that isn't the right word. Whatever it is, they spend a lot of time literally bashing into the European Honey Bees and to occasionally circling frantically around each other until one concedes and is run out of the patch! So that was our Saturday, and will probably be our Sunday although there is next to no light so it might be more of a coffee with the bees day rather than a photos of the bee day. Either way, Sunday is looking just perfect to me! Blue-Banded Bees Northern Illawarra
