"text": "I didn't really go out adventuring this weekend but regardless there were animals everywhere. Brushtail possums with very full (read: overflowing) pouches and Ringtails with twins, the comings and goings of unseen Bandicoots, a young Eastern Water Dragon huffing and puffing and scurrying through the leaf litter disturbed by the pups, dragonfiles and butterflies finally showing up, a Boobook calling far in the distance and lucky for me, some very bouncy Humpbacks just 10 mins away. A lovely weekend with very little effort.\n\nAnd then these guys. I saw my first Rose Petal Bubble Shell Snail only last year and honestly, I nearly crapped myself with excitement. I mean, they look like something that would normally only be seen by those willing to don the wetsuit and the flippers and the air tanks and the weight belt and the bouyancy vest thing and the mask and the regulator and all of those other terrifying accessories that I swore I would never put on again after my first and only dive. Yes, I'm a drama queen. No, I won't be diving again. Especially if it's at the end of a huge set of stairs. But either way, these guys came to me! \n\nAs the weather heats up, you're more likely to see these snails in shallow water and rock pools as they lay their egg masses which I was super lucky to see the other day. The rockpools were teeming with these critters, I must have seen about 5, plus there were the Red-Lined Bubble Shells which were too small for me to film because as soon as I press record I go through this whole thing in my head, telling myself over and over not to move and for some reason as soon as I do I start to take these really, REALLY deep breaths. In, out. In, out. Which is great. I mean, breathing is important and all, but as I breathe these enormous slow breaths, the camera rises right up and then right down again. It does not a smooth movie make. And with the little ones so tiny it's more distracting so I'll post some photos later as they are GORGEOUS with this kind of translucent, irridescent blue mantle.\n\nBut these guys are totally lovely and I adore (and giggle at) the little eye spots. They look kind of hilarious and they're not true eyes which makes me love them even more because I know they're not judging my windswept hair or enormous thighs. To them I am light and dark which is fine by me. They do have a sense of touch and you can see it on this video as one of the bubbles is under a rock ledge which just happened to be occupied by a curious little Hermit Crab - you can just see it's pincers reaching out, looking for something to eat - and if you can't see that, you can see the reaction of the snail as it flares its mantle out in response after being prodded. The shell can't actually be retreated into and it's paper thin. But these animals can burrow into the sand, looking for worms to eat and to hide away from predators and Mondays, I guess.\n\nRose Petal Bubble Shell Snail\nSandon Point",
