I ended up with a little bit of free time today. I have been waiting for exactly this moment! So what did I do? Oh, I upended a tin of paint all over the floorboards (thankfully the old waiting to be tiled boards), said, "F*** it, I'm going to Kmart" and then instead ended up at Hill 60 looking for whales. My heart wasn't in it though. I wanted to be home, amongst the chaos, doing sweet FA, except for hanging with the dogs. But at the top of Hill 60, I couldn't help but get a little excited as the Superb Fairy-Wrens were going crazy, the boys chasing away the boys and then chasing the girls, pausing occasionally on bare branches, throwing their heads back and having a sing. There were a few alarm calls from various birds which had the family groups scurrying for shelter amongst the bushes but from what I couldn't see. And then suddenly amongst the shadows my favourite (okay, one of my favourite) small birds, the Variegated Fairy-Wren popped up. But he didn't want to pose and really I find these birds super tricky to get photos of at the best of times because they do prefer the safety of staying within the shrubbery, but this boy was on a mission, chasing was it a female, a young male? frantically throughout the branches, weaving in and out so fast that I couldn't keep up with them. So I ended up catching him for a couple of shots only before I headed home to the chaos I had been missing where I proceeded to break one of the only cups that isn't packed safely away in a box. Today: not my finest moment 😂🙌 Variegated Fairy-Wren Hill 60 Port Kembla
