Now I don't want to boast, but today I made a GIF ๐๐ For someone that is easily distracted and even more easily bored, let me tell you, this is a bloody huge achievement. But truth is, I'm supposed to be finishing off a clean up and pack up of our old kitchen, in preparation for it being pulled out tomorrow and learning how to make a GIF seemed more interesting than that this morning but ended up being totally riveting and an absolute must do when the electrician arrived and turned off the power and therefore my access to Netflix. Anyway, it doesn't matter WHY I learnt to do it, all that matters is that I acquired a new skill and it's only Tuesday. Winning.
And how cool are Pelicans? I tend to not take photos of them though. Well, I do. But I don't post them on here very often. I mean, they are one of the clowns of the bird world and I find it so hard to capture their personality. So when I see them, I tend to just hang back and laugh as they come in to land, their legs and massive feet akimbo, somehow managing to stick that landing every single time. And I love their big bummed waddle and their demanding of fish fromt the fishermen as they clean their catch. But mostly I just stare as they soar overhead in groups of 3 or 4 or 5. They bring in with them floods of memories and emotions as I watched the pelicans make huge lazy circles in the thermals from the window of my dad's room as he lay dying in palliative care. So yeah, it's super difficult to capture those things in a few photos so mostly I just keep those ones for myself.
But this Pelican needs to be shown off. You can't just flap those incredible wings and splash around directly in front of me and NOT be rewarded now can you?! You can't see it in this sequence but several of the birds in this colony including this one, were sporting a bright pink bill - mostly in the front section of the pouch in a sort of crescent moon shape - noticeably different to the usual pale pink hue, while the skin of the pouch that's nearest to the throat changes to a yellow colour. It's incredibly beautiful and while I'm not currently on the lookout for a new partner and my husband totally should not be nervous in the slightest, I have to say that if I was a Pelican and I'm definitely NOT a Pelican, but if I was, I would totally fall for this fancy AF bill.
