It's kind of strange out the back now and I still look up into their tree, instinctively, each morning and then several times throughout the day. I know they're somewhere across the road amongst the eucalyptus, building their ridiculously terrible nest, getting ready to have babies. I'm scared for them. The Powerful Owl is calling and we've lost a nest to them previously, the baby's body strewn on the road and only small fragments of the parent remaining. The other day we found the stomach and intestines of a young possum on our front lawn, the remnants of the owl's meal. While we wait hopefully for the emergence of safe and well frogmouth shaped fluffballs, I'll have to make do with the tremendous camouflage of this Two-Tailed Spider. It waits for its prey - in this case an unfortunate wasp - before ambushing them. #twotailedspider #spiderofaustralia #arachnids #camouflage #animalcamouflage #australianarachnids #wollongongbotanicgardens @backyardzoology
