I err on the side of the dramatic) but today was nothing short of idyllic. I really haven’t been having a lot of luck whale wise so considering the absolutely gorgeous day, the brilliant sea conditions and the upcoming yucky weather, I decided to head down to my favourite place for a spot of whale watching. On the drive down I was super lucky to see a food exchange by a pair of Black-Shouldered Kites and a beautiful White Bellied Sea Eagle as soon as I pulled into Huskisson. The perfect start. And then I climbed on board the boat and started to quietly panic. We’ve had a couple of bad ocean based experiences, so I started to do what dogs do when they’re feeling stressed- I started to yawn! I must have seemed like the sleepiest girl ever because my yawning only increased when we decided to head far out past the heads to find the very elusive whales. But look who rode the bow before we even got that far- a pod of three gorgeous Common Dolphins!!! I was well and truly happy with that but throw in a couple of penguins, a brief encounter with a mum and calf Humpback on their way south, Australasian Gannets and a Shy Albatross or two and I was totally blissful. Eyes closed face to the setting sun, smile plastered across my face (but no teeth on display because I didn’t want people to think I was a weirdo 😂🙌), wind in my hair blissful. And then as I started to drive home I turned and saw a huge mob of Eastern Grey Kangaroos soaking up the golden light. Yeah, today was pretty good I guess.
