I've always wanted one of those husbands that contact you during the day. You know a text here, a text there. One of my friends has one of those and they seem to be chatting all day long. Actually, thinking about it, I have a few friends that have those chatty husbands and they seem totally dreamy. I seem to be the odd one out. Don't get me wrong. I do sometimes get hellos and how's your day but generally he spends his working days, well, working. I headed up to The Australian Botanic Garden at Mt Annan today and while I was waiting in a super long coffee line I sent him a quick, "Hey, how's your day?" And as expected, radio silence in return.
Until I was knee deep in a hunt for one of my very favourite birds, the Rose Robin and then 5 texts, one after another started to come through, my phone noisily announcing the arrival of every single one! 😂 Now, I don't want to not reward good behaviour so I was trying to text back while also trying to keep my eye on the little fluff ball. These guys move north from Victoria and ACT during Autumn and Winter so they're fairly newly returned to the gardens and I have never spotted one closer to home so I was pretty excited.
But I'm terrible at the sneaking around thing at the best of times and between my baby elephant clumsiness crunching away with every step and my phone chiming with the sudden influx of messages (and notifications for whale sightings kilometres away 😂) the little robin took one look at me and headed for the trees in the distance. Bugger. I'm persistent though and continued to bash my way around the lake, my shoes themselves also making a weird crunching sound now after sitting in and then drying covered with a thick layer of salty water from my rock pool adventures. Lucky for me though, this robin was focused on food and ended up coming back to where I was and flitting to the ground a few times in an effort to catch bugs.
And just as I was about to finally get some okay shots in some half decent light, a world-renowned photographer turned up (he told me to say that 😂) and after very loudly pretending to be a tree, pointed to a bird flying over our heads and far, far off into the distance: "Rose Robin." Thanks for that! 😂🙄 Next time for sure!
