I haven't had a chance to thank you all for the birthday wishes but they are all very much appreciated!!! Today we got to play with one of my birthday pressies - a DJI Osmo Action camera, like a GoPro but better ๐๐ The thing is, DJI Osmo Action camera isn't a catchy name, so we've already started referring to it as the GoPro anyway ๐๐๐ Today was a practice run only and I have to say, so far so terrible, as far as my skills go. Turns out putting it into a rockpool and essentially pressing it against the thing you want video of, doesn't really work. So all of my videos are blurry AF.
Husband did much better, and even though he insists that he bought this for me because he knew I wanted one, he did have a certain glint in his eye every time I asked for help! He's also very good at that bending over and getting back up thing that I'm a bit shit at, so he was able to get the camera and its cute little tripod into some awesome spots. And then he yelled out to me, "Hey do starfish battle?" Of course, my first item of business, and one of my favourite things to do, was to point out that they're actually called Sea Stars and absolutely they battle, or at least I think they do and either way my phone was out of battery so no way to google and he better be getting that present in the water quick sticks as I sure as hell wouldn't be able to rock hop over in time.
Turns out he did and I could, because if there's one thing I know, it's that anything that Sea Stars do, they do very, VERY slowly. By the time I made my way around to the pool Matt was staring down into, two Sea Stars were next to each other, each with two of their arms raised up as if ready to fight. I tried to get some video with my normal camera but even as they locked arms together the movements were so minute and so slow I may as well have taken one solitary photo. Meanwhile, Matt had submerged the camera and it was taking photos for a time lapse video which was much cooler (all be it blurry - we need to work out the optimal focus distance for these type of videos) than we had expected.
Look, let's be honest, I have no idea what is really going on in this video but if Sea Star wrestling suddenly becomes a thing, my money's on the orange guy, the ultimate underdog and overall victor. It's the Australian way.
